Istanbul Airport is huge, and the SIM shops in arrivals know it: prices there are often several times what you would pay online. A travel eSIM lets you walk past them, because your data is already on the phone before take-off.
Which network will I be on?
Turkey has three operators: Turkcell, Vodafone Türkiye and Türk Telekom. Travel eSIMs ride on these same networks, so coverage in Istanbul, Antalya, Cappadocia and Izmir is the same 4G/5G that locals use. Outside the big cities Turkcell usually has the widest reach.
How much data for a week?
- Maps, WhatsApp, a few photos: 3 GB is plenty.
- Instagram stories and video calls home: plan on 5–10 GB.
- Working remotely or sharing with family: 20 GB or an unlimited plan.
| Data | Valid | Price |
|---|---|---|
| 1 GB | 7 days | $1.49 |
| 3 GB | 30 days | $3.49 |
| 5 GB | 30 days | $4.99 |
| 10 GB | 30 days | $6.49 |
| 20 GB | 30 days | $11.49 |
| 30 GB | 30 days | $19.99 |
Three tips locals would give you
- Install the eSIM at home on Wi-Fi, then switch it on when the plane lands.
- Turn on Data roaming for the eSIM line — it is needed even though you are not paying roaming fees.
- Download the BiTaksi or Uber app before you leave the airport; yellow-cab haggling is much easier with a map open.
